Ear Candles are cones or cylinders of waxed cloth, that have been infused with herbs, essential oils and other natural ingrediants (such as honey, sage & camomile etc.)
What are they used for?
Ear Candles are used to help with a wide range of problems connected with the ears, nose, throat and sinuses.
- Compacted Ear Wax;
- Relief from sinusitus, rhinitis, glue ear, colds, flu, headaches, migraines;
- Swimmers ear;
- Ear pain from frequent or long haul flights;
- Irritation in the ears and sinuses
The treatment starts with stimulation of facial pressure points – this helps to relax facial muscles, increase circulation and drain the sinuses.
The client then lies on one side, the candle is placed in the auditory canal and then lit. You will experience a pleasant crackling sound and a warm comfortable feeling as the candle burns. This is then repeated on the other ear.
The treatment is completed with a mini facial and scalp massage – this provides further relaxation and maximises the effects of the ear candling.
Is it Safe?
I only use premium Biosun ear candles, which have an established reputation from over 15 years of production experience. They are regularly tested by independant institutes and are certified medical products according to EC Guidelines 93/42 (EEC).
They are made from 100% natural ingrediants and each candle has a patented safety filter that prevents anything entering the ear.
How does it work?
The heat and vibration from the flame, create a stimulating, warming effect that generates a massage like effect on the eardrum.
As the ears are directly linked to the nose and throat, this treatment can help relieve symptoms of many associated conditions.
Wax Blockage: To help clear a wax blockage, one treatment may be enough – however, 2-3 may be needed dependent upon the extent of the build-up. Regular treatments every 8 weeks may help to prevent it building up.
Hayfever / Rhinitis: 2-3 treatments may be needed in the 1st week to help relieve the inflammation of the membrane lining the nose – followed by 1-2 treatments in the next 2/3 weeks.
Colds: These treatments will not cure a cold, but they can help to clear congestion and ease discomfort – treatments can be performed once a day for the 1st week, then less often in the 2nd if symptoms persist.
Sinusitis: Weekly treatment in the 1st month is recommended for chronic sinusitis, then 1-2 per month for a further 2-3 months. In the first few days of acute sinusitis, daily treatment is recommended. Monthly treatments may then help to prevent the severity and frequency of attacks.
Glue Ear: An initial treatment of once per week for 1 month may be sufficient. Regular monthly treatments thereafter may be beneficial.
Tension Headaches: The pressure relief and relaxation of the treatment can help with tension headaches brough on by stress.
Tinnitus: There is no known cure for Tinnitus, however ear candling treatments may help reduce the symptoms by aiding relaxation.
